Dean Coughenour Sworn In as PRIMA President
June 10, 2015, Houston, Texas— Dean Coughenour was sworn in today as the 2015-2016 Public Risk Management Association (PRIMA) president at the association’s annual membership luncheon in Houston, Texas.
“I am honored to be before you. As my wife will attest, there have been less than a handful of times in my life where I have been speechless,” said Coughenour, during his inaugural address. “The day I was nominated to the position of president was one of those rare days. I am humbled.”
Coughenour praised the power of the PRIMA community to educate and inspire its members and constituents.
“So many of you that have taught me something new, affirmed what I thought I knew was right, advised me of how to do something a little different to get better results, a different way of looking at a problem or have just been there as a sounding board for me,” he said.
“That is the power of PRIMA--we learn from each other’s experience, embrace each other’s expertise and grow in our ability to provide an impactful risk management program for our organization,” he continued. “PRIMA helps us to jump start our knowledge base and nurture those critical relationships while building new ones. This is an industry that more often than not is really about relationships. Whether with employees, vendor partners, management or our peers, the more we invest in these relationships the more effective we will be.”
Coughenour takes over the role of president of the Association after serving on PRIMA’s board of directors since 2012. Coughenour will lead the Association of more than 1,000 public entities and oversee its nine-person board of directors until June 2016, at which time he will assume the role of past-president on the Association’s board.
PRIMA director Terri Evans, risk manager for the City of Kingsport, Tenn., was sworn in as PRIMA’s president-elect. She will assume the presidency of the Association in June 2016.
PRIMA members also welcomed the following members as directors:
Lori J. Gray
County of Prince William, Va.
Jani J. Jennings, ARM
Insurance & Safety Coordinator
City of Bellevue, Neb.
